Short Stuff Specialist Championship 2019 Update

Our last short club race was the Cricklade 10km. It was also the Handicap race, which meant points were rewarded for improvement on a handicap time instead of position. We had 4 men and 6 ladies competing with themselves to beat their times!

Men’s Competition:

After struggling in previous races, Mark Manley returned to form, and smashed his handicap time to pick up the 10 points. He was followed by Elliot Gardiner, who ran an impressive PB to collect the 9. Steve Sandercock picked up the 8, and Ted the 7. Well done all.

How has this affected the top 3?

  1. Mark Garrett 44 points
  2. Mark Manley 40 points
  3. Ben Chapman 36 points

Ladies Competition

Proving she really is a short stuff specialist, Rosie Oates smashed her PB and handicap time to pick up the 10 points. She was followed by Anne Gardiner, for the 9, and Pauline Tilbury collected the 8 points. Great running!

How has this affected the top 3?

Rosie has cemented her lead now, she will be our short stuff specialist 2019, well done Rosie. Other places are still to play for though!

  1. Rosie Oates 50 points
  2. Ellie Taylor 45 points
  3. Kirsty Pitts 36 points

Fantastic results. Remember, you have until the end of October to submit a 5km time. You can compete in a race or a Park Run, just give myself or Dave the time and the details of the event. You need to complete 5 races to qualify for the SS Championship.

Happy Running,

Elaine, Club Captain

Club Handicap Race 2019 Results

Last weekend was the club handicap race, with the option of running in the Cricklade 10km or Half marathon. Always an interesting event, as points are rewarded for improvement on the given handicap time rather than first in, it quite often mixes things up in the championship.

Full results are now available in the championship section of this website.

The winners of each category are as follows:

Men’s Half Marathon : Kevin Joynes Creed

Ladies Half Marathon: Ellie Taylor

Men’s 10km: Mark Manley

Ladies 10km: Rosie Oates

Some impressive times run on the day, including PB’s for Kevin and Rosie, well done all who ran over the weekend.

Happy Running,

Elaine and Dave, Club Captains

I wanted to end the report this week by saying what a privilege it has been to compile the results today, listing all your incredible achievements and reading all the fantastic comments of support and encouragement. It is a reminder that success is not just what you accomplish but it is about what you inspire others to do – and you are certainly an inspirational lot!

RSE Race Report – Sunday 29th September 2019

Berlin Marathon

Now in it’s 46th year the 2019 BMW Berlin Marathon was held on Sunday, 29th September. Fast, flat and synonmous with world records, with another one this year only missed by 2 seconds, the BMW Berlin Marathon is one of the six major marathons in the world and has been held annually since 1974. The course begins and ends near the city’s Brandenburg Gate and is part of a giant loop. For those runners that actually look at the scenery this marathon was an excellent way to see the city, including Reichstag, BerlinerDom, Brandenburg and Potsdamer Platz.

Representing RSE was Dave Whitlow who completed the race in 3:28:28. He was followed by,

Nadine Brown – 3:41:50 which was a PB

Linda Edwards – 4:09:48 which was a PB

Emma Hine – 4:12:02 which was a PB by a fantastic 34 minutes

Fantastic effort from you all well done.

Forest of Dean Autumn Half Marathon

The Forest of Dean half marathon took place on Sunday 29th September. The course started and finished at Speech House and was run entirely on forest trails with no road crossings at all. The multi-terrain route generally used well-maintained tracks including a number of new trails and was slightly hillier than the previous course.

Representing RSE was Kate Potter who completed the race in 2:38:44 and came in first place in the female V70 category. Outstanding effort Kate.

Badminton HTE 5K

This unique event, now in its 36th year, is held in Badminton Park in Gloucestershire, and the all terrain course took the runners over some of the world-famous Horse Trials obstacles, in sight of deer herds and through fields and woods.

Competing in their very first Canicross 5k and representing RSE was Rosie Oates and her pup Barley. The route itself was very muddy and included a lake crossing but that didn’t stop Rosie and Barley from winning the race in 22:36. Hope you didn’t have to carry Barley all round. Well done to you both.
