RSE Race Report – Sunday 27th September 2020

Goodwood Motor Circuit Marathon

The Goodwood Motor Circuit Marathon took place on Sunday 27th September. This event gave runners a unique opportunity to run a marathon around the world famous Goodwood Motor Circuit, home to the Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival. The race involved running around a smooth traffic free tarmac motor racing circuit 11 times. Goodwood motor circuit is the only classic circuit in the world to remain entirely in its original form. Goodwood Motor Circuit originally opened its gates to the public on September 1948, to host Britain’s very first post-war motor race meeting at a permanent venue.

Representing RSE was Linda Edwards who completed the race in 4:26 and came third in her age group. Great effort Linda

Cotswold Way 2020

The Cotswold way relay is a favourite club event. This crazy year meant that the official event was cancelled. The good news was that Team Bath decided to run a virtual event instead. We had until the end of July to complete and record our times for our assigned legs. A few changes to the format meant that we could choose to run all 10 legs, or choose to run the legs closest to you – Northern legs 1-5 or Southern legs 6-10. We decided to go for the Northern legs.

20 of you were keen to take part, so we had 4 virtual North teams.

RSE Mens team: Mark Manley (1), David Daniels (2), David Witnall (3), Ollie Hazel (4), and Henry Church (5)

RSE Ladies team: Sarah Reynolds (1), Elaine Chapman (2), Ellie Taylor (3), Nadine Brown (4) and Sharon Smith (5)

RSE Mixed 1 – Liz Farooq (1), Ben Chapman (2), Martin Sherriff (3), Kevin Joynes-Creed (4), and Sarah Page (5).

RSE Mixed 2 – Ann Gardiner (1), Vanessa Poole (2), Felicity Crotty (3), Gareth Roberts (4), and Cathy Steer (5)

We all had great fun getting back out on the Cotswold way, it was great to have the opportunity to take part. There were many adventures, and several members took a few detours!

The results have been added under the Cotswold way section of the website, where you will find your individual times and positions for your legs.

In terms of team results:

RSE Men finished in a time of 9:15:33, and were 5th in the mens category (5/10).

RSE Ladies finished in a time of 11:02:08 and finished 5th in the ladies category (5/8)

RSE Mixed 1 finished in a time of 10:58:26 and finished 8th in the mixed category (8/10)

RSE Mixed 2 finished in a time of 11:27:56 and finished 10th in the mixed category (10/10)

Well done to all who took part and thank you for sending us your results.

RSE Virtual European Tour – Week 2 Update

Since leaving Cirencester on 8th July our two intrepid teams of runners, The Euro Trailblazers and The Euro Globetrotters, have been exploring the sights of Northern Europe. Leg one was a short 93 mile trip down the M4 to London before heading south on a longer 266 mile trip to Paris for leg 2.

At the start of this week the teams were well on their way to Paris both covering the total of 357 miles from Cirencester arriving in the French capital in time for lunch on Monday. The Trailblazers holding a huge 6 mile lead by the close of play on Monday…

Leg 3 –

After arriving in Paris for lunch on Monday the two teams were then tasked with 204 miles heading east towards Luxembourg.

Those of us of a certain age will remember Radio Luxembourg as the soundtrack to our youth so for this leg members were asked to provide photos of Pirates or Radios. As you can see Tracey and Sallie came up trumps with some Pirates while Dave enjoyed a run listening to Radiohead.

By Thursday evening both teams had arrived in Luxembourg with The Trailblazers extending their earlier lead to 25 miles.

Leg 4 –

Leaving Luxembourg early on Friday morning the teams were now heading 117 miles North into Belgium on the way to the home of the EU in Brussels.

It was inevitable that a short distance leg starting on a Friday would not take long to complete and both teams managed to cover the distance before Saturday lunchtime.
the teams were tasked to take images showing the colours of the Belgium flag however they flew through the distance so quickly they didn’t stop to take the pictures…

Leg 5 –

Leg 5 saw the teams continuing North from Brussels into The Netherlands to Amsterdam on another short leg of just 124 miles.

For this leg we had to use the famous Dutch orange theme with members enjoying orange drinks, recording runs on orange watches, wearing orange headgear and a throwback image of Team RSE in Amsterdam during 2017.

Needless to say with it being a weekend, traditionally reserved for long runs, the two teams soon had the 124 miles cracked off ending the weekend in Amsterdam.

Leg 6 –

Leaving Amsterdam first thing on Monday morning the teams are now heading East again into Northern Germany with a 258.6 mile journey to Cirencester’s twin town Itzehoe…
