Hosted by the Long Distance Walking Association, this event provides walkers and runners with a stunning via footpaths and bridleways with beautiful views across the Vale of Pewsey and Marlborough Downs. Entrants navigate themselves past many famous sites, including Avebury Stone Circle, Silbury Hill and the Wansdyke, on the 25 mile trek.
A huge well done to Lesley Hinsley, who completed the course in the first of 2 ultra runs within a week. Lesley finished the course in a brilliant 8 hours.
Yearly event organised by LDWA, starting at Pewsey Scout hut, going via white horse, Avebury, Malborough downs and round to Pewsey. 3100 ft of elevation.
Ran/walked with a friend for 1st 14 miles. [I was then] on my own for the next 13 miles where watch, including sat nav, ran out of battery. Met 'Mike' who was on his first ever ultra, but he had Sat Nav. We ran together helping each other the rest of the way.

Isle of Wight Ultra
Because 35 miles is not enough for some, Lesley Hinsley took on the Isle of Wight Ultra, a 53km (33 mile) ultra from Chale to Cowes. Around 2,000 participants took on the run across the Island’s stunning coastal path, which has full support and hospitality along the way.
Congratulations to Lesley who completed the course in 6hours 41 minutes!
[This was my] 1st Ultra on my own - running 53km halfway around the IOW. Starting from Chale along the coast at Tennyson Down, along the trails and coastal path via the Needles, Yarmouth, Newtown, finishing in Northwood at the County ground. Fantastically organised event with Prosecco and meal at the end. Beautiful scenic views, lots of hills and very muddy trails. Lovely event.

Beyond the Ultimate Highland Ultra
RSE’s Andy Sampson also completed a multi-day ultra this weekend, crossing over 125km – the Beyond the Ultimate Highland Ultra!
Congratulations to Sampo, and hopefully we will get an update from him when he’s recovered!

The London Marathon is one of the biggest events in the running calendar, with over 50,000 runners taking part in the 2023 event. The race is so popular that runners can go years without a successful ballot place (I know I’ve tried!), and for good reason – the course is unmatched for its atmosphere, entertainment and historical landmarks. The route has remained largely unchanged since its inaugural event in 1981, passing the Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge, Canary Wharf, Tower of London, London Eye, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace.

Congratulations to all of the runners who took part, and to the fantastic RSE support team!
This was my first proper marathon race, although I previously ran the virtual London marathon last year in a time of 4:38, so this was almost a 28 minute PB! I had hoped the weather would be dry but the weather was not kind and it rained for more than half the race. Felt good up to 20 miles but the started struggling with sore feet and cramp from then on. Couldn't believe how many people there were watching, although I never saw any of my supporters!!
Darren Jenner
With all the extensive training it felt like a long time coming but it definitely didn’t disappoint! Absolutely amazing atmosphere which definitely helped to keep me going! Not the time I was hoping for but still pleased with my overall pacing and as it was my first marathon it was still a PB! 😅 Great motivational support from RSE and from all my friends & family that travelled down to catch a glimpse of me! Shame I didn’t hear them shouting along embankment! 😂 Maybe I’ll try another one next year….🤔
I also managed to smash my fundraising target for KRUK which was an added bonus! Thanks to all who donated 😊
Elliot Gardiner
So happy to get a PB at London!
Crowds were fantastic, lots of noise and support despite the drizzle. The drums in the underpasses definitely made you run a bit quicker! So well organised and lots of helpful marshalls.
Massive thanks to the RSE supporters who were there as well as some of my London based family!
I would just like to thank all the RSE members for all their supportive messages and to those who have helped me complete some cold rainy training runs!

Corsham 10k
A fairly challenging course with multiple inclines. Super chuffed with the pace, helped out by fellow running pals.
Leah Brown
The Corsham 10k is now in its 40th year, hosted by Corsham Running Club with proceeds going towards local charities. The course starts at Corsham Football Club before heading out towards the edge of town, and climbing up Park Lane. Runners are then taken along country lanes to Neston before heading (mainly) downhill back to the football club.
A huge well done to RSE’s Leah Brown who completed the course in a brilliant time of 50:25.

An 11:00am start in Highworth saw 17 RSE members taking on the scenic 5 mile loop mainly on flat, fast roads, with a sting-in-the-tail at the 4 mile marker! This year the race was part of Running Somewhere Else’s Championship and with the event starting and finishing at Warneford School was spectator friendly.

Well done to every runner and thank you to those who came and supported.
First four miles are a gentle down hill, so quite fast. However you know that the big hill is coming. I had decided to Jeff it (walk/run) and that definitely paid off. Lovely event with homemade cakes afterwards.
Anne Gardiner
Really enjoyed the race and the views. Decided to go quick in the first four miles which meant I could relax a bit for the hill. Great cake selection and great support from RSE too! 🍰
Ben Chapman
Not actually a PB (as Anne put on the chat) but not far off and probably because I walked up that hill at mile 4 😄
Anne-Marie Davies
Always an enjoyable race with the RSE runners. Lovely course (well, until mile 4) a great run and PB by 40 seconds so all in all a great day!
Alan Powderhill
I didn’t like the up but pleased to have completed it!

Southampton Marathon
The two-lap course of Southampton Marathon, beginning and ending at the Guildhall in the city centre, takes runners past the docks, then over the Itchen Bridge. Following a section by the shoreline at Weston Shore, the route then takes finishers inside St Mary’s stadium.
Congratulations to Zoe Markham-Lee who completed the course in RSE colours!
Zoe Markham-Lee – 4:30:09
Beat my PB by 20 minutes! So far this year I’ve done a 10 mile PB a 20 mile PB and now this! 2 lap course and loved going through St Mary’s.. I’m definitely having a few beers later to celebrate. Once I can walk that is… plus it was a long marathon!
Zoe Markham-Lee
Brighton Marathon
With incredible crowd support the Brighton Marathon gives runners a chance to experience a unique city-to-coast course taking them past iconic landmarks. A new route this year, the 2023 Brighton Marathon started at Preston Park, with the route going into Withdean before the turn back down the London Road towards the city. Once past the Pavilion, runners head up into Kemptown and then follow the coast to Ovingdean before a final turn back for a breath-taking view of the city, following the coast along the promenade and into Hove before finishing at Hove Lawns.
Well done to David Witnall and Phil Newman who ran for RSE!
David Witnall – 3:27:09
Phil Newman – 4:41:51
Brighton Marathon kicks off the large city marathon season with over 12,000 entrants. The route starts at Preston Park and meanders around the suburbs before heading down to the seafront at mile 8.
The course then follows the road out to the 13 mile turn point, and back past the Marina and the Steve Ovett statue (it was exciting for the running geek in me) at 16.
The course becomes pretty dull, in my opinion from mile 18 to 22, making up distance, before going past a lovely cheese warehouse/ shop and Fat boy slims house.
The last 2 miles are a case of head up and work your way down the prom as the finish line slowly gets closer.
In conclusion, how did my race go? Well, it was near on perfect, with pacing and a push with 10 kms to go resulting in a negative split, sub 3:30 and another medal for the drawer.
P.s thanks to Ellie for her support at the 6 different points, shame I didn’t see her every time!

Reading Half Marathon
The Unleashed Performance Reading Half Marathon not only takes in the highlights of the centre of Reading where runners experience huge crowd support but also still passes through the beautiful grounds of the University campus. The race culminates in a finish rarely found outside an Olympic stadium with over 15,000 people cheering you into the stadium and over the finish line.
Running the Reading Half today was Liz Hulcup.
Liz Hulcup – 2:02:13
It was a raw morning, a lot of waiting to begin with and a good walk to the start. Lots of support all around the course, apart from the last mile, but finishing in the Madjeski Stadium being cheered on from the crowds in the stands.

The second race in RSE’s championship series is a popular annual race amongst club members, the Wiltshire 10. Starting in Melksham, the course follows an undulating, but surprisingly fast course around the surrounding rural roads. Runners loop around the historic village of Lacock before following the River Avon back to the finish in Melksham. This year the race was a lot drier than last year’s torrential version, making it a perfect club day out!

Anna and I ran together for the whole race and helped each other to stick to the pace. It was Anna’s first 10 mile race so she did incredibly well. I was also pleased to improve my PB by 4 minutes.
Anne Gardiner
Was aiming for 8.15 pace as part of my marathon training plan, with no plans for a PB attempt today, so I was very pleased with the pacing. Ran with Paul Robertson to pace Alan Powderhill to a new 10 mile PB! 💪🏼 Nice little sprint finish with Darren Jenner at the end! Rewarded with cake at the finish line 🍰 😋
