Tipped as ‘one of the country’s most beautiful city runs’, the York 10k takes in the city’s historic landmarks, including ancient city walls, Clifford’s Tower and the minster. The course is fast and flat, meaning is it a popular race for runners seeking a PB.
Running for RSE was Anne-Marie Davies, who finished in a brilliant time of 1:00:43!
Great atmosphere and scenery and watched on by my parents who are in their 80s 🥰 Will be back to do it again next year!

Fantastic running Anne-Marie!
Barry Island 10k
This seaside race offers the best of summertime – sun, sea and sand. Runners are taken on a tour of the town’s scenic landmarks, including Whitmore Bay, the Knap, Romilly Park and Watch House Bay. The race website boasts ‘unbeatable crowd support and feel-good atmosphere’.
Martin and Sarah Page ran for RSE and finished in brilliant times! It was Martin’s first race, which means an automatic PB!
Sarah Page – 53:22
Martin Page – 1:09:00 – New PB!
It was hot, hilly but scenic with great local support. It was Martin’s first race!

This free event, staged by The National Trust, gives entrants the opportunity to run part of Wiltshire’s stunning prehistoric landscape around Avebury. The route is a circular 10K starting on the edge of the village before making its way up onto the Ridgeway and around Silbury Hill. It’s a challenging route which provides stunning views across the wider Avebury landscape.

This out and back course can only be described as beautiful. Held in Long Hope near the Forest of Dean, the route begins at the Red Hart and follows the undulating road, taking in the picturesque countryside. This was the next race in RSE’s championship, meaning several club members took on the run in the hot summer’s heat!

Sports Day
This week saw RSE’s first ever sports day! Rather than the usual effort session, the club tackled space hoppers and foam javelins, and tested their balance skills with the egg and spoon. A massive thank you to Nadine Brown, Ollie Hazel and Carol Sworn for organising the events, keeping score and managing the competitive-ness of the RSE members. We loved it!
Well done to the Red team who won the evening!
And thank you to those that took all these embarrassing photos…

This fast 10k is the second in the lightening bolt services held in Langley Burrell, Chippenham. The race features only 14m of elevation, making it perfect for runners seeking a PB, and the event website writes that it “promises to be one of the fastest 10k races in the UK.”
Running for RSE was Mark Garrett and Alan Powderhill, who both ran brilliant times!
Mark Garrett – 43:53
Alan Powderhill – 49:28 – New PB!
A nice, flat course and definitely worth doing if up for a PB attempt. There are 2 more races there this summer.

Race to the Stones 100k
The Race to the Stones 100k is an incredible ultra challenge with breathtaking scenery and a touch of history to keep runners occupied on route. The course takes runners from the Uffington White Horse to Liddington Castle, and then finishing at Avebury Stone Circle.
What better way to celebrate a 60th birthday than to run 60 miles! A huge congratulations to Lesley Hinsley for completing the challenge for her birthday and for charity, and to Mark Manley for supporting in such a fantastic run!
Mark and Lesley finished in a brilliant time of 14 and a half hours, and Lesley came first in the LV60 category!
For my big birthday this year I talked to Mark about doing a 60 mile race. Mark came up with the 100k ‘Race to the Stones’ which was yesterday 9th July to celebrate my 60th year. I also wanted to raise money for our Café charity Teenage Cancer Trust. Mark has coached me, helped, encouraged, guided and pushed me every step of the way and believed I was capable of doing it. He even did the whole race with me! He has been a real diamond and I can’t thank him enough. The race was especially tough yesterday due to the very hot weather and any one who knows the Ridgeway knows there is NO shade.! Both suffering falls along the way we finished in 14 and a half hours 197th and 198th out of 1000 entrants on the day. 150 DNF, lots due to the heat. I came 1st lady in my new age category MV60. Absolutely delighted. Apart from a few stiff legs, we both escaped injury free. I have so far raised £4,500 for the TCT with promises of more to come on completing the race. Thank you to everyone from RSE who donated. And ready now for my next challenge (the stairs 😂) in a day or two!
Lesley Hinsley
This time last year, Lesley had only ever run one marathon but yesterday she did Race to the Stones in 14:29 – 23m further than she’s ever run and she was 1st 60VF! The heat on the Ridgeway where there was little shade was brutal and Lesley face planted early on. Lesley will raise £5K for Teenage Cancer.
Mark Manley
Frampton 10k
This fast, flat 10k race has been popular amongst RSE members over the years, and was previously a club championship race. Run by Stroud AC, the course takes runners through the picturesque village of Frampton-on-Severn on a 1-lap route. As well as being a great race for runners seeking a PB, the event also offers a cider for finishers at the end!
Well done to Sharon Smith for completing the course in a brilliant time of 51:10 and finishing 1st LV65! It was Sharon’s first road race since January!

Just a Reminder
If you are running a club championship race and would like to be included in the championship results, you must wear an RSE race vest on the day. The only exceptions are if you’re running for a charity and would like to wear a charity vest, or if you’ve just started with the club and have not yet received a race vest.
If you have any questions, please contact Dave Witnall or Elaine Chapman.
