Westonbirt House Christmas 10k

The last day of the year saw runners take on the beautiful grounds of Westonbirt House for a festive 10k. The race follows 2-laps through the House grounds and is mainly on road/pathways, although 1.5k crosses trail/grass.

Several RSE members took on the challenge, ending the festive season in running style! We particularly loved the Christmas pudding outfits worn by Linda, Cathy and Sarah!

Myself, Sarah and Cathy ran the Westonbirt Christmas 10k today which was rescheduled due to the snow. It poured down and we were nice and snug on the start line. The sodden puddings however gained some weight in water as we ran the two loop course. It was great fun and well supported despite the weather. We were also joined by another pudding friend from Dursley running club.

Do you need a bit of extra morivation for the New Year?

Your Coaching Team have put thier thinking caps on and have come up with a series of challenges for you to consider during Janury.

You might just fancy a single challenge, you may want to fill a line, you could go for the four corners or those super competitive ones may fancy filling the whole card. It’s entirley up to you how many challenges you choose to take on and it’s purely there for some fun and motivation…

Full challenge details:

Carol – Complete a Parkrun First,

• Complete your first ever Parkrun, if you’ve already run a Parkrun complete your first at a new venue.

Dave W – Complete your favourite route in reverse,

• Take your favourite running route and turn it on it’s head by running it the opposite way round.

Dave D – Attend every club session in January,

• Show us 100% commitment and attend all 8 club sessions throughout the month of January.

Elaine – Try something new for the New Year,

• This could be a new run route, run a cross country, try a new exercise class, just do something that running related that you’ve never done before.

Gareth – Set a distance target and hit it EXACTLY,

• Set yourself a distance target for the month then get as close to it as you can.

Kevin – Run naked once a week,

• Leave your running tech at home, forget about how far, how fast etc and run purely for the love of running. 

Nadine – Complete your own 2023 challenge,

• Take the numbers 2, 0, 2 & 3 and make your own challenge. You could run 20.23k (or miles), swim 202.3 lengths, complete 20 squats a day for 23 days. Use your imagination and have some fun.

Ollie – Give something back…

• Give a little of your time to help other runners, you could volunteer at a Parkrun or marshal at a race, you know how much you appriciate the support so give a little back.

Sarah – Take some time for yourself,

• Treat yourself to a bit if self care, complete at least 30mins of stretching, yoga or pilates every week during January.

A WEEKEND OF FINALS

Overshadowing the World Cup final this afternoon, was a more important and more unique finale – the RSE PARKRUN CUP FINAL 2022!!

This year it was contested by Linda Edwards and Vicki Mason.

To celebrate the occasion, a snowy Cirencester parkrun was descended on by our club members, some running, some volunteering and some there to support our finalists.

The parkrun cup started back in June with 30 competitors taking part. Each draw, 2 runners competed head to head on a handicap basis. It was excellent to see so many people getting involved with the cup and improving round on round. As we reached our final stages, it was inevitable that PBs were harder to come by, so congratulations to all runners for the times they achieved! I will post the full parkrun cup ladders after Ellie posts the club report so you can all see the fantastic progression of the runners!

Gloucestershire Cross Country – League Race 2

Hosted by Stroud AC, the second race in the Gloucestershire took place at Milton End Arlingham. The race crossed over farmland and a motor cross course, for the added hills! The icy conditions did not stop runners turning out, and what started as hard ground soon ended up as the usual cross country mud.

Despite having a cold, it was good to get out in the bitter fresh air and run with some of Gloucestershire’s finest.
