RSE Racing Report – 25th March 2018

What a wonderful Spring weekend we have finally had! And whilst some people were still in bed, drinking tea, other RSE members were out enjoying the sunshine and doing a spot of running…

Gloucester 20

Due to an unforeseen road closure the Gloucester 20 had a modified route for this year’s race on Sunday 25th March, starting and finishing at the Robin Greaves Sports Hall in Waterwells, Quedgeley. This year it was also an AAA race, with over 500 runners all taking on the new 3-lap course.

12 RSE members took part in the club’s third championship race of the season, and didn’t they do well! First home for the club was Tom Cooper in a mighty impressive 2:20:03 (PB), followed by London Marathon bound Mark Manley in 2:33:36. Dave Daniels put in an awesome effort to finish in 2:39:27 (PB), obviously spurred on by his adorable cheerleaders. Andy Masser was next home for RSE in 2:43:03, followed by Nadine Brown in 2:48:45 (PB). Gareth Roberts continues to look strong in preparation for the Brighton Marathon finishing in 2:57:04 (PB). Graham Aitchison finished in 3:00:27, followed by Elaine Chapman in 3:02:24. First timers at this distance Ellie Taylor (3:06:17 PB), Rosie Oates (3:27:55 PB), Emma Hine (3:28:36 PB) and Amanda Tyler (3:40:45 PB) should all give themselves a huge pat on the back for their awesome races too; so impressive! Linda Edwards also ran for her first claim club (Bourton Roadrunners) and finished in 3:17:07. Well done everyone!

Clock Change Challenge

The Clock Change Challenge is a popular road race offering a fun run, 5k or 10k option starting at Calne Leisure Centre. Well done to Martyn Joyce who completed the 10k in 42:15.

Back to Black 10k – Wild Night Run Series

175 people took part in the Back to Black 10k on Saturday evening which is the last of 4 races in the Wild Night Run series. The race starts at Leigh Wood, a popular spot for night running. Not content with the 10k, Richard Marshall added on an extra mile (route markers are much harder to see in the dark!) finishing in 1:25:27. Well done Richard.

SMaRTT Smasher 10k

A fantastic result from Martyn Joyce at the SMaRTT Smasher 10k in Calne on Sunday. He finished 5th overall and picked up the prize for 1st MV40. He believes it was an unexpected result, but we at RSE know how hard he trains and it was fully deserved.

Bourton 10k

On a beautiful, crisp Sunday morning 10 RSE members ran in the Bourton 10k. A popular fast and flat course has definite PB potential and many members were able to take advantage of this. First home for the club was Ben Chapman who, after reviewing the photos, seemed to run the whole 6.2miles with a wonderful ear-to-ear smile upon his face! Fantastic work Ben 🙂 Special mention to Vicki Mason who took 3 mins off her previous PB and Linzi Gregory who ran for the first time in RSE colours. Thank you also to the fabulous support crew.

Ben Chapman 45:03; Nadine Brown 47:09 (PB); Ted Pitts 48:11; David Whitlow 48:22; Cheri Edwards 50:07 (PB); Wayne Edgington 52:24; Janet Daniels 53:54 (PB); Vicki Mason 54:02 (PB); Linzi Gregory 54:07 (PB) and Laura Butler 1:07:42. Excellent running everyone.

Seville Marathon

Seville Marathon boasts that it’s not only a fast course but it’s also one of the most beautiful circuits in the world, crossing the city centre and the main monuments of the ancient town. RSE Zoe Hammett took full advantage and finished in 4:04 – awesome work Zoe!
