RSE Club Report – Running for Beer!

Stroud Beer Race

This tough race is one to test the hill endurance on – based at the Old Lodge, Minchinhampton, the 3-lap course takes runners down to Amberley Inn before the course starts climbing, up to Beaudesert School and across the common. Included in both the RSE club championship and the Glos. AAA road series, the race is all worth it for a free half-pint of beer at the end!

It was great to see so many club members running the course, as well as those out cheerleading!

Definitely one of the hardest races I’ve done. Hills, hills and more hills! So chuffed to achieve a sub 1 hour time. Brilliant support from RSE as always and great club experience again.
Alan Powderhill
Undulating with a capital "U"! I last ran this race in 2021 and this year the conditions were a lot cooler thankfully, but a nasty headwind coming up the long incline at the end of each lap made it particularly challenging. The support of the RSE crowd cheering us on as we finished each lap was really appreciated and spurred me on.
Nia Glover
This a 'Why did I enter?' kinda race but this time I enjoyed it. I managed a 9 min course PB which I'm super happy with. Lovely to see so many of club out.

Buxton Half Marathon

This single lapped race starts at Buxton’s Opera House before heading out into the beautiful Peak District countryside. The course is described as ‘challenging’ with a total ascent of approx. 1508ft and several tough climbs. The race then finishes at the Pavilion Gardens.

Running the course on his Birthday was RSE’s Tim Wainwright, who completed the course in a brilliant time of 2.15.08!

Two words for this one - never again 😂 But I will say, amazing scenery [and] really beautiful views at the top!

RSE Club Report – Race Vest Weather!

Westonbirt 10k

This beautiful race takes place at Westonbirt National Arboretum where entrants run past the world renowned tree collection at one of its most beautiful times of year, with spring blooms and flowering trees providing the backdrop. The flat course crosses through the ancient Silk Wood as well as the picturesque avenues of the Old Arboretum. Several RSE members took on the course for a mid-week challenge and a perfect run on a warm spring evening.

  • Anne Gardiner – 53:19
  • Anna Field – 53:20
  • Sylvia Warman – 1:09:02
  • Ben Mutlow – 1:10:45
  • Roseanna Price – 1:11:45
A midweek event running through the trees 😁 A beautiful run, well organised and the sun was shining! I also managed to get my sister around the course for her first 10k race, though not sure she appreciated my encouragement at times?!
Ben Mutlow
I’d forgotten I was running this, so hadn’t done any training…! Fortunately the beauty of the route, and the trademark RSE support and enthusiasm, got me round. I’ve only run this distance a handful of times, so this is a 10k race PB to build on 🙂
Rosanna Price
Beautiful running through the trees. Hard hill at the end great support from fellow runners and a PB!
Sylvia Warman

Worcester half marathon

Now in its 12th year, the Worcester Half Marathon has grown over the years, offering a full event day which includes a marathon and 10k race. The half marathon follows a 1-lap route on rural lanes before finishing at Worcester Rugby Club.

Running for RSE was Jeremy Benton, who completed his first race!

  • Jeremy Benton – 2:20:37 – PB as it’s his 1st race!
First race ever age 60 and only RSE entrant as far as could tell - perhaps others were at the front! Hilly course it seemed to me hence a slow time as not good at hills 🙂
Jeremy Benton

Chester Half Marathon

Starting and finishing in the historic Roman/Medieval city, the Chester Half Marathon predominately flat city and rural race route. The course starts in Chester racecourse before heading out into the city centre. The wide roads make this a great race for racers and PB seekers, and the finish outside the town hall and cathedral lends itself to the large crowds

Racing in yellow was Felicity Crotty, whoo completed the course in a great time of 2:33:35!

First time running Chester HM (I've run Chester 10k a few times, with my cousin). A lovely day with watery sunshine and not too hot, a well organised race with lots of water stations. Finishes in Chester town centre, which means there was quite a hard hill mile 12 onwards. Doing this as part of the Chester triple (10k, HM and metric in October) so this was run 2/3.

RSE Club Report – From 1-33!

Bourton 1 Mile Race

The Bourton mile always feels a bit different to other races, whether it’s that all ages race at the same time, the interesting start which is sometimes delayed due to the oncoming traffic, or that we never really train to run ‘just a mile’. Part of the Gloucestershire AAA road championship series, the race is popular, starting at Rissington Road before heading the mile course into the heart of Bourton. The race also featured in RSE’s very own championship, meaning the yellow vests were out in force!

Second race this week. So happy to be back racing with the Club after a long injury break. The Bourton 1 mile is to be feared as you know it is going to hurt ! However, it wasn't so bad. First in my age group and second County Gold this week and, as expected, a collective jolly vibe at the end with friends which makes it all worthwhile.
Sharon Smith
First ever one mile race! Flat course from the outskirts of Bourton village into the centre. Difficult one to judge the pacing on but was aiming for a sub 6.30 and my official chip time was 6.07! Very pleased! First time I’ve received a biodegradable medal too! It took less time to run the race than it took to eat the burger and chips at the pub afterwards! 🍔🍺😅

Marlborough Downs Challenges - 20 and 33 miles!

From one of the shortest races, to the very long! The MDC is a beautiful run along some of Wiltshire’s most picturesque countryside. The full 33 miles crosses some iconic sites, including the Wansdyke Path, Tan Hill Way, White Horse, and Cherhill Monument. The views are incredible and the silence of the countryside, far shot from any traffic pollution, is enough for any runner to add one of these races to their bucket list.

33 Mile Challenge

  • Lesley Hinsley – 6hrs 47 mins
  • Elaine Chapman – 6:47:22
  • Kevin Joynes-Creed – 7:09:45

20 Mile Challenge

  • Nadine Brown – 4:07:00
  • Ellie Taylor – 4:07:10
It’s been quite a busy running week! First time running the MDC 20 and it really is a beautiful route at this time of year, made better with the hand crafted mug at the finish. I’ve not made many club sessions recently but I’ve really enjoyed seeing lots of RSE members at the various events over the last 6 days. And yes, I was attempting to get my name in the race report as many times as possible this week 😉
Nadine Brown
Lovely race with the lovely company of Elaine to keep me going all the way. She does actually stop talking about 20 miles in !🤣. The route started in Malborough centre, along the tails and canal path to Devizes, then more hills to Avebury, finishing at Malborough Leisure centre. Very friendly race with lots of checkpoints . Mostly self navigating, so a watch with Sat Nav or map essential.
Lesley Hinsley
Was absolutely delighted to get under 7 hours. Loved the race, so beautiful running through the woods with the bluebells, and some of the most fantastic views! Was a privilege to run with Lesley who kept me going, really appreciated her support. Only mishap being a tumble at around 31.5 miles, but kept going, no way was I stopping so close to the end!
