RSE Club Report – ‘Tis the Season for Parkruns and Ultras!

50k WinterCross

Starting at the Meon Hall in Meonstoke, the WinterCross consists of 3 out and backs along different terrains. The challenge is to finish before dusk on one of the shortest days of the year… and run after all of the Christmas food!

Running for RSE were Mark Manley and Lesley Hinsley – it was Lesley’s 2nd ultra after completing her 1st in only November, whilst Mark rounded off the year with his 10th ultra!

Mark and Lesley completed the course in a brilliant time of 5:58:53!

We beat the cut off for the 70k by 15 mins but took over 10 minutes making up our minds whether to call it a day so the time is 10 minutes quicker! Lots of water, mud, rain, wind and hills sapped us.

Lesley has done amazing. She did her first ultra in November, just one month after smashing her marathon PB at Manchester and today was her furthest ever distance.

Mark Manley

It was fab. Really enjoyed it. Very, very wet, muddy, rainy and cold. We set off to do 70k with the option of bailing at 50k. We did meet the cut off by 20 min and set off to do the last 20k but them bailed ( a bridge too far in the bad conditions). Only 28 runners went on to do the last 20k! I finished 4th in my age group! A great course and I would do it again… and a great medal!

Lesley Hinsley

Incredible running from both of you!

RSE Club Report – The Most Run-derful Time of the Year!

Hullavington Secret Santa 10 Mile Race

Held around the picturesque village of Hullavington, the Secret Santa run was the last race in RSE’s 2021 club championship – what better way to end than with a race that promises cake to finishers! The course was all on road and is listed as ‘gently’ undulating around the quiet country lanes. It was a fantastic turnout of club members, all braving the cold for a festive run.

[I] really enjoyed it, one of those days when I managed to have good energy and kept the pace. Not the easiest course, lots of ups and downs but so, so pleased to have hit that time. A really positive RSE day, great to have the support of other team members. 🏃🏻‍♂️🔥

Alan Powderhill

It was foggy, cold and quite hilly but nice medal and even nicer cake!!

Sarah Page

The last race of the year for 2021 and a new 10 mile race distance PB (by 7 mins!) to finish the year off! 🤩 An extremely undulating route in the fog & mist which gave it an even more wintery feel 🥶

Elliot Gardiner

I first ran the secret Santa in 2019 but I don’t remember it being that hilly back then.
As with all Stampede events the race was well organised, very friendly and of course had the ever present slice of cake at the finish.
For anyone running future races in Hullavington I can strongly recommend the Sunday roast from the Hullavinton Arms 😋😋

Kevin Joynes-Creed

Incredible running everyone!

Safety Notice

A Message from Caroline Terry, Club Welfare Officer:

Firstly, thank you to club members who are wearing hi-visual running gear including body or head torches on club nights. (any time you run in the dark!)

Please can I remind you that light coloured tops and jackets are not so good at reflecting light. So please get yourself kitted out with something that helps you see where you are going and others can see you. (the pavements & roads are not so smooth… )

It is so important to run safely. It also sends a message to the general public and upholds our good reputation of being respectful to others who use the pavements and roads. (see RSE constitution).

Thank you and keep safe.

If you would like a run or race included in the club report, don’t forget to message Ellie Taylor by 5pm Sunday each week 🙂

Tatton Yule Yomp 10k

“It was muddy!” – Felicity

Running around Tatton in Kuntsford, the Tatton Yule Yomp follows a 1-lap, mixed-terrain course, including trail, grass, tarmac and gravel. The undulating race encourages runners of all abilities to take part, including those who fancy some festive fancy dress! RSE Club Report – Running for Pudding!

Bromham 10k Pudding Run

Held in the Wiltshire town of Bromham, this 10k is run is a flat, road course – perfect for a PB! As well as a medal prize, runners also receive a Christmas pudding to take home. This is a great run for some festive spirit, particularly from RSE club members who love a chance to dress up!

This is the 3rd time I’ve raced the ‘Pudding Run’ it’s always really well supported, very friendly with great marshals. It’s a nice flat two lap course which is great for a PB attempt and you get rewarded with a nice medal and a Christmas pudding.
