Hi Runners
I thought some of you with an interest in ultra running or endurance training maybe interested in this.
For those of you who are not familiar with Steve Way, he is quite unique. At 33 he was a 16.5 stone smoker, now aged 40 he is the British Marathon MV40 record holder (2:15m), finished 10th in the Commonwealth games marathon and is the British record holder for 100k.
Steve doesn’t rest on his laurels, since the Commonwealth games he’s taken part in a 90K (56miles) trail race in Sweden finishing second. This was his first experience of this type of trail running. The blog of the race and post race video really are worth a read/watch. The video is in Swedish but stick with it just to see the course and the interview (in English) at the finish line. Also the ladies race was won by a British women Holly Rush.
Steve always shares his weekly training schedule, results etc via his Garmin Connect. Take a look at his average heart rate, I will say no more on.
(Being of an age!) I find Steves achievements given his history and age quite inspirational. This year has been a good year for the veteran athlete with Jo Paveys European championship Gold. Right off for a run 😉
