Winter Wychavon Way Ultra
The Wychavon Way runs from the town of Droitwich Spa to Broadway and covers the length of Worcestershire, making it the perfect course for a 41 mile ultra! The route follows canals, undulating meadows and makes reference to a significant climb (ouch!). Starting in the chilly hours of the morning on Saturday, Nadine Brown took to the course, for a foggy but beautiful run.
Nadine covered the 41 miles in a brilliant time of 8:59:08! And not content with running an ultra for the weekend, competed in the Linda Franks 5 mile the very next day!
My coldest race so far; I had icicles forming on my hat! Unfortunately, it was very misty so no spectacular views until we reached the top of Bredon Hill where we were greeted with blue skies. A few missed turns resulted in covering just over 41 miles but pleased to sneak in under the 9hour mark – wasn’t expecting that when I first set off!

Heaton Park Half Marathon, Manchester
One of the largest parks in the North West, Heaton park, covers over 600 acres, and the grounds lie host to a stunning Grade I listed, neoclassical 18th century country house. Each year, runners have the opportunity to take on a 5k, 10k or half marathon in the beautiful grounds, with music and refreshments to make it a great day out.
Running for RSE was Libby Butler, who took on the 4-lap course of the half marathon; with over 900 feet of elevation, there were some challenging hills, but some spectacular views of Manchester. Libby completed the course in a fantastic time of 2:20:46!
It was extremely cold to begin with but it didn’t take too long to warm up as there was a hill start. Really pleased to get my first race in after such a long time out.

Linda Franks 5 Mile Race, Cheltenham
Organised by Almost Athletes, the Linda Franks 5 mile race is always a sell out due to its potential for PB times and its position in the Gloucestershire AAA road championships. This year it was the first race in the club championship and a great opportunity for club members to support one another! There was a lot of yellow on the course, with over 20 members running.

First race of the year & first race back from injury 🤕 despite the freezing cold weather 🥶 RSE turned out in force! Quite icy in places so it was a good excuse to take it steady and see how the injury would react! It definitely went better than expected as I was less than 1 minute off a PB! Official chip time 37.06. Good start to the marathon training, now time to start increasing the distance!

Gloucestershire AAA Road Championship Awards
A message from club captain, Elaine Chapman:
Friday 20th January saw the awards ceremony for the Gloucestershire AAA county championship, a series of races held throughout the year across Gloucestershire.
2022 was a very successful year for Running Somewhere Else – Not only did we have a number of individual medallists across a lot of the age ranges, but we also won the Ladies team open and Ladies team veteran categories!
This is the first time we have won anything like this. I am so proud of our runners, and would like to say well done not only to our medal winners, but also to those who raced and contributed to our team! Many of you helped secure our victory, it was definitely a team effort.
Well done Team RSE, let’s do it again in 2023!
