Richard Jefferies 24/100 Backyard Ultra
This event is 24 x 4.2 mile laps that start each hour in Coate Water Park, Swindon and ran from 0900 Saturday morning to 0900 Sunday. Runners complete as many laps as they want to (and not necessarily consecutively) building distance up to 100 miles. No credit or advantage is given to those that complete laps quickly (and those that finish a lap outside the hour will be able to count their distance). Runners all start the next lap together and no times will be taken with the route taking you around the lake (the old Lido), out into the woods, over the dual carriage way and back.
Someone say a long distance event … cue ultra royalty Mark Manley and Lesley Hinsley!
There were various themed loops like ‘bikini loop’, ‘super heros’, dresses’ where runners ran in fancy dress. I was happy to run as many laps as possible to beat my own target of 62.5 miles. 15hrs took us nicely to midnight and just topping 64 miles.
Whilst it was great fun, it did get rather monotonous as time went on.
Lesley Hinsley.
Lesley and I did the Richard Jeffries Backyard Ultra yesterday. 4.2m laps around Coate Water on the hour over 24 hours for as many or few as you like. We did 15 consecutive laps till midnight.
I went back this morning to make my distance to 71.5miles. Ultra #9 for 2022.

Incredible running both!
Angels 10k
The Angels 10k is an undulating but picturesque road race in the Severn Vale taking in view of the Cotswold and Malvern hills. Part of the Gloucestershire AAA County Road Race series it attracts lots of runners from many of the local clubs.
A good turnout saw RSE pick up two county medals and earned the team more AAA points in the series. Congratulations all.

There were 6 of us (representing RSE) at Angels 10k today, 11th race in Glos AAA. Lovely, pretty route with a few hills (one lasted a good mile I reckon) Nice day for it, and really well organised.

Course very picturesque but hilly!

Lovely route, certainly undulating but quiet country lanes and beautiful views. 54:10 chip time. Nice atmosphere, friendly marshals 😀

Chippenham Half
The Chippenham Half Marathon is run over a fast, accurately measured and predominantly flat course. The route goes through the centre of Chippenham and then follows scenic country lanes visiting local villages and hamlets including Tytherton Lucas, East Tytherton, Avon and Langley Burrell. This event is ideal for first timers or experienced long distance runners looking to achieve a personal best. Alan Powderhill running with Paul Robertson certainly made the most of this, achieving a new half marathon PB! Well done both.
- Alan Powderhill 1:54:16 – New PB!
- Paul Robertson 1:54:17
The race itself was very well organised. Good safe event with marshalls and Police holding off traffic. Not a pancake flat course but one that you can really push yourself towards a PB on. Scenery was stunning in places. Well worth a race, one I will definitely do again.

Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon
The Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon starts and finishes in the village of Llanwddyn and heads up to cover a clock wise lap of the stunning Lake Vyrnwy. The course is extremely fast and has a course record of 1.02.14. Perfect for all runners as well as those seeking a fast time it offers spectacular views all the way around.
Darren and I completed the Lake Vyrnwy half marathon today… Neither a PB but both pleased with results as both a little injured. Great weather and views over the dam.
