Ridgeway 86
The Ridgeway is a notoriously tough trail, following Britain’s oldest road used by travellers for over 5,000 years. Infamous sites include the Uffington White Horse, Avebury Stone circle, Grim’s Ditch, a Neolithic chieftain burial tomb and quite a few castles! Beginning at Ivinghoe Beacon near Tring, the race is supported by fully stocked checkpoints, transport and support crewes.
It takes a brave runner to sign up to the Ridgeway 86, and Running Somewhere Else had 4 club members enter the challenge – Dave Daniels, Gareth Roberts, Kevin Joynes-Creed, and Mark Manley!
A huge well done to Gareth and Dave for completing over 40 miles of the course! And to Mark who finished the 86 miles in an incredible unofficial time of 22 hours 31 minutes, whilst Kevin completed his longest ultra yet in a brilliant time of 23 hours and 53 minutes! Inspirational running from all of you!
Flying Monk 10k
Previously an RSE club championship race, the Flying Monk 10k begins at Malmesbury Victoria Football club, before taking runners down the “Old Fosse Way”, the oldest Roman road in the country. This road race is undulating in parts.
Zoe Markham-Lee and Sharon Smith took to the course this weekend, achieving some brilliant times.
- Sharon Smith – 47:17 – 1st LV70!
- Zoe Markham-Lee – 58:31
More hills than I anticipated but as usual with DBMax, great marshalling, support and enthusiasm, so very enjoyable. We [Zoe and Sharon] did OK considering we had both ran on Saturday.

And the best thing was that the medal is a bottle opener!
Zoe Markham-Lee
DBMax know what runners want in a medal!
Zoe also completed a 175k (10miles) running challenge this month – well done, Zoe!
Severn Bridge 10k
The 10k returned to the original course used before 2020. It started very close to J2 on the eastbound carriageway of the M48 and crossed the Severn and Wye bridges. Running from Wales to England, the Severn Bridge crosses over a mile of river, which means a surprisingly long hill to run onto the bridge itself.
Well done to Darren Jenner and Felicity Crotty for completing the 10k race!
- Darren Jenner – 50:38
- Felicity Crotty – 58:36
Always fun to run over the bridge, it wasn’t even too windy, although not as flat as you’d think a bridge should be. There were also some nasty hills at the end to get off the bridge and around to the finish too!
