Gloucestershire Athletics Cross Country Leg 4 – Pitville Park
Pitville Park was the fourth leg in the Gloucestershire Athletics Cross Country series for 2024/25 and is also a Club Championship race. The men run 3 laps and the women do 2 laps.

- The men’s team was Paul Beaumont, Mick Bagot, Jon Campbell and Rob Baker.
Jade :”First XC race, so an interesting experience! Not sure I enjoyed the stream crossing so much!”
Nia: “This was definitely the most challenging course of the season, with a river crossing and lots and lots of mud! Thankfully by the time we set off the rain had stopped and I had a great time, the course was super varied and you had to really concentrate on your footing the whole way round. The crowds were really supportive and it had a great atmosphere, although I suspect the large crowds around the river crossing were all secretly hoping we’d fall in…”
Zoe: “Whilst Club Captains Ben and Elaine were enjoying a ‘butter beer’ at Harry Potter World, some of us were busy getting muddy and running through ice cold streams. I fell over about three times. Sharon was unhappy that she didn’t see it. Felicity would also be unhappy as this came with no medal. Apart from that, it was oddly fun and Jade and I had a nice coffee after.”
Paul:”Muddy good fun! Managed to sit down in the water crossing and slip over just afterwards on the first lap, but learned my lesson, just about, for the next two. Memorable. Great to have an RSE team.”
Sharon:“First race after multiple injuries
and it felt good to take part albeit very slowly. Seeing all the regular runners from other Clubs was fun.There were five of us which was brilliant . Nia Jenny Jade and Zoe. Very slippery as expected, well marshalled and first LV70.”
The Dursley Dozen

A 12-mile (not 12 hills!) running race across demanding terrain including hills, woodland, open country, mud, roads, more mud, more hills, and gravel paths. Undulating trails lead to the infamous precipice, where ropes are provided, before runners emerge at Drakestone Point.
Representing RSE were Russell Young, Dan Drayton, Andy Sworn and Carol Sworn. Sadly no photos of the ropes!
