A friendly running club based in Cirencester!

Nia’s Speedy Santa Run

Races

Hullavington Secret Santa 10 Mile

The Hullavington Secret Santa Run is a 10-mile road race & fun run held over a gently undulating and picturesque course, starting and finishing in the village of Hullavington, near Chippenham in Wiltshire.

Nia Glover completed the race in a speedy  1:08:29, a new 10 mile PB and Nia was also 4th female. Congratulations Nia!

“The route is undulating and some miles were made tougher by the cold headwinds, but thankfully after starting the race in freezing cold hail the sun came out and actually made for quite good conditions all things considered! It’s a friendly race with everyone receiving a medal and a present from Santa (chocolate!) at the end.” Nia. (sadly no photos)

RSE Club Championship 2024 – Final Results

Hello everyone!

After a few very wet and windy weeks, and a later than planned end to the championship season, I’m delighted to announce the final championship results.

The final few races have now been completed, including a club-organised replacement mini event for the cancelled AVR Wiltshire Half Marathon.

Right anyway stop waffling Ben, let’s see the final results:

Endurance Expert:

Men’s competition:

  1. Mark Garrett – 43 points
  2. Darren Jenner – 41 points
  3. Alan Powderhill – 34 points

Ladies’ competition:

  1. Zoe Markham-Lee – 34 points
  2. Kirsty Pitts – 32 points
  3. Elaine Chapman – 32 points

Short Stuff Specialist:

Men’s competition:

  1. Jon Last – 50 points (maximum)
  2. Mark Garrett – 46 points
  3. Alan Powderhill – 36 points (see note below)

Ladies’ competition:

  1. Jennifer Glass – 48 points
  2. Anne Gardiner – 41 points
  3. Elaine Chapman – 34 points

A note on the men’s Short Stuff Specialist category:

Alan Powderhill and Steve Sandercock both gained 36 points, so Rule 13 of the 2024 Championship Rules was invoked to determine 3rd place.

As this is a sub category of the main championship, head-to-head race performances were examined. Alan placed ahead of Steve in four races, Steve ahead of Alan in one, so Alan has therefore been awarded third place.

Well done both on a tightly fought competition.

Finally, it gives me great pleasure to announce our championship trophy winners.

Overall Championship:

Men’s competition:

  1. Mark Garrett – 73 points
  2. Darren Jenner – 63 points
  3. Alan Powderhill – 59 points
    No Masters trophy awarded

Ladies’ competition:

  1. Nia Glover – 80 points (maximum)
  2. Jennifer Glass – 74 points
  3. Elaine Chapman – 58 points
    Masters trophy: Zoe Markham-Lee – 53 points

RSE Club Championship 2025 – Race lineup

New races with details have been sent out recently by Elaine on WhatsApp – these will be uploaded to the website soon with dates and other information, for your reference. I’ll let you know when this has been done.

Finally, please take care when out running over the winter months, please remember to wear hi-viz and consider taking your phone with you if running alone, and as always – happy running everyone!

Race Report 8/12/24: Racing through stormy weather

Congratulations to everyone who managed to get out racing despite Storm Darragh’s best efforts to dampen our running enthusiasm…

DB Max Christmas Chilly 10k

Sarah Page 52.38.4

Elaine Chapman  52:52.5

Linda Edwards 55:54.5

Jade Beaumont 58:12.9

Jade : A very windy one and definitely lived up to its ‘chilly’ name!

Sarah : Not called Chilly 10 k for nothing but would have been better called chilly and windy today. Luckily it stayed dry which counts as a bonus! Well organised race and lovely flashing 🏅 Was chuffed to get 1st place in age category

Gloucestershire Cross Country League – Bath

Nia Glover: 28:41
Sharon Smith:  33:53 1st LV70

Nia: This was the third Gloucestershire Cross Country League race of the season, hosted at the University of Bath. It was also the Inter-Counties Championship (whatever that is!). Storm Darragh made for tough conditions, thankfully it stayed dry but gusty winds and strong headwinds on the uphill sections were a bit mean!

For women the course consisted of a “short” two laps followed by one longer lap which added in an extra hill over slightly rougher terrain. Generally the course had long downhills and long uphills and we were lucky the footing was mostly dry. Beforehand we weren’t particularly keen to run in the storm today but in the end we both agreed we were glad we did it!
