RSE Race Report – Sunday 24th February 2019

Carsington Water 10k

The Carsington Water 10k took place on Saturday 23rd February. The race involved running the undulating, traffic-free trails surrounding Carsington Water Reservoir, Ashbourne, Derbyshire. The route offered stunning views of the Lake and surrounding Peak District countryside and is considered ideal as part of a Spring marathon training schedule.

Representing RSE was Tom Cooper who completed the race in 40:22 coming in 4th place. He was followed by;

Martin Sheriff – 49:13

Great effort from you both well done.

The Terminator

The Terminator was a 12 mile challenging, muti-terrain course that took place in Pewsey, Wiltshire on Sunday 24th February. The race started with a gentle run across fields and a canal towpath but then got serious with several climbs, a sting in the tail and a free shoe wash. I think the t shirt is probably better used to understand the route.

Representing RSE was Elaine Chapman who completed the race in 2:08:30.

Well done Elaine.

Bourton 10k

The Bourton 10k took place on Sunday 24th February. The course consisted of 2 laps of the picturesque village of Bourton on the Water, followed by a run out and back, finishing with 1 more small lap of the village. The course was flat, fast and traffic free.

Representing RSE was Dave Witnall who completed the race in an impressive 38:00. He was followed by;

Paul Coates – 47:02

The forth and final race in the Gloucestershire Cross Country League took place at Pitville Park, Cheltenham on Sunday 17th February.  This was a flat route around the park with the men’s race being 10k and the women’s race being 6.5k in distance.

Representing RSE in the men’s race was Ben Chapman.

Representing RSE in the women’s race was Sharon Smith, Elaine Chapman and Kate Potter.

Unfortunately at the time of posting this the results and times have not been published.

Great effort from all runners though.

CASTLE COMBE ‘CHILLY’ 10K

On Sunday 17th February the Castle Combe Chilly 10k took place. This was a 3 lap event around the flat running surface on the famous Castle Combe race circuit in Wiltshire.

Running as a 65 minute pacer for the event was Kevin Joynes-Creed who completed the race in a very accurate 64:42.

Mentioned In Dispatches

This was a very easy decision for me to make this week and it will come as no big surprise that both Sharon Smith and Kate Potter are mentioned in dispatches. They both took part in the Gloucestershire AAA Cross Country Championship which consisted of 4 events. Great racing from both ladies throughout the races resulted in Sharon achieving Gold Medal place in the LV65 category whilst Kate Potter achieved Gold Medal place in the LV70 category.

It is fantastic for RSE to have 2 gold medal winners in a County event series yet again. Well done to you both

The Brecon to Cardiff Ultra on Sunday 10th February was a 70k one way race that started in the Brecon Beacons National Park with its dramatic mountain landscapes. Racers then joined the Taff Trail which made much use of an abandoned branch of the Taff Vale Railway and the Glamorganshire Canal.  From Brecon the route headed east following the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal to Talybont-on-usk. There the route climbed for quite a long way to Torpantu, from this point it was downhill all the way to the finish Nantgarw.
